Description

Penstemon angustifolius var. caudatus, a variety of narrowleaf penstemon, is a hardy, herbaceous perennial native to the western United States, particularly thriving in dry, sandy, and rocky soils of grasslands and open woodlands. This drought-tolerant species typically grows 12–24 inches (30–60 cm) tall, forming an upright clump of slender, lance-shaped, bluish-green leaves that provide a striking contrast to its vibrant flowers. In late spring to early summer, it produces showy spikes of tubular, lavender to bluish-purple flowers with delicate darker markings on the petals. Germination
