Description

Passiflora edulis Orange Giant, a variety of the passion fruit vine, is an exceptional tropical plant prized for its exquisite and flavorful fruits. This vigorous evergreen vine features deeply lobed, lush green leaves and delicate tendrils that allow it to climb and cover structures such as trellises and arbors. Orange Giant is particularly renowned for its large, vibrant orange fruits that have a tough, wrinkled rind when ripe. The pulp inside is sweet, aromatic, and bursting with a unique tropical flavor. It is a popular choice for gardens in tropical and subtropical regions, thriving in full sun and well-drained soil. In addition to its delightful taste, the passion fruit from Orange Giant is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, making it a nutritious addition to the diet. The vine s intriguing flowers are also visually captivating, with a complex structure and shades of white and purple. Orange Giant is a prized and productive plant, offering gardeners and fruit enthusiasts the opportunity to savor the tropical essence of passion fruit in their own backyard.  Zones 8-10

Germination

To germinate Passiflora edulis Orange Giant, start by rubbing the seeds with a piece of fine-grit sandpaper. Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours to help soften the seed coat. Then, plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix or sandy soil in a container or seed tray. Sow the seeds at a depth of about 1 4 inch, and keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination process. Maintain a warm temperature of around 75-85°F (24-29°C) to encourage successful germination. Be patient, as passionflower seeds can take several weeks to several months to sprout. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, they can be transplanted into your garden or larger containers.
