Description

Oenothera gaura, commonly referred to as gaura, is a captivating biennial plant known for its delicate beauty. This North American native features tall, slender stems adorned with lance-shaped leaves and clusters of dainty, butterfly-like flowers. Gaura blossoms come in various shades, including white, pink, and light purple, and they have a distinctive appearance with long, wispy stamens. The plant s height can range from 2 to 4 feet (0.6 to 1.2 meters), creating an elegant, airy presence in the garden. Gaura is renowned for its ability to sway gracefully in the breeze, adding a touch of movement to garden landscapes. It thrives in well-drained soil and enjoys full sun, making it a popular choice for xeriscape and wildflower gardens. With its extended bloom period and low maintenance requirements, Oenothera gaura is a delightful addition to any garden, attracting pollinators and contributing to a charming, natural ambiance.  Zones 4-8

Germination

Oenothera gaura, commonly known as gaura, is a lovely perennial plant with delicate, butterfly-like flowers. To successfully germinate gaura seeds, begin by sowing them in a well-draining seed-starting mix in the spring or early summer. Lightly press the seeds into the soil s surface, as they require light for germination. Maintain a consistent soil temperature of around 70-75°F (21-24°C) and keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically occurs within 10-15 days, and once the seedlings have developed a few true leaves, they can be transplanted into your garden or larger containers to continue growing into mature gaura plants, which are known for their graceful, swaying stems and prolific blossoms.
