Andrographis paniculata, also known as Andrographis or King of Bitters, is a herbaceous plant native to South Asian countries. It grows up to 30-110 cm tall, featuring lance-shaped, serrated leaves and small, tubular, white-to-lavender flowers. The plant s distinct bitter taste makes it unpalatable for many herbivores. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant and is admired for its attractive foliage and delicate blooms, making it a lovely addition to gardens and landscapes.  Annual

Germination

To germinate Andrographis paniculata seeds, start by preparing a seed starting tray or small pots filled with a well-draining seed starting mix, such as a mixture of peat moss and perlite. Moisten the soil evenly, ensuring it s not waterlogged. Then, sow the Andrographis paniculata seeds evenly over the surface of the soil and lightly press them into the soil with your fingertips, as these seeds require light for germination. Avoid covering them with additional soil. Place the tray or pots in a warm location with indirect sunlight or under grow lights, maintaining a temperature between 70-80°F (21-27°C). Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy by misting regularly or using a gentle watering can. Germination typically occurs within 7-21 days. Once the seedlings have emerged, thin them if necessary to provide adequate spacing, or transplant them into individual pots when they have developed a few sets of true leaves. Continue to care for the seedlings with proper watering, light, and nutrients as they grow into mature plants.
